Y Skate Youth and Community

A mobile skate park, meeting the demands of young people and providing a valuable youth resource, flexible in application and highly effective in any open environment such as a park, field or playground.

The Skate Park was provided out of the Money for Youth funding stream and as a direct result of consultation with young people on their needs.

Managed by a specially trained staff team and supported by young volunteer skate-boarders, the facility is an excellent resource for engaging with the young people in the community. As well as providing an effective diversion, it also give some the opportunity to learn a new skill.

There are volunteering opportunities for the more experienced skaters to help with the setting up as well as sharing their skills with others. This empowers the young people, building confidence and self-esteem in the individual. The project builds social skills between skaters by encouraging the safe sue of the equipment and directly builds relationships between the staff and skaters. This in turn can open channels of dialogue, meeting deeper needs of the group or individual.

The Y Skate park is fully equipped with boards, helmets and protectors and is available for hire to support outreach and community events.
