The Drill Hall Drop-In Drop-In Centres

The Drill Hall Drop-In is the only centre for homeless people in Kettering. It provides support services to St Jude's residents and other visitors, holds workshops to encourage young people to think about issues such as safe sex, and also runs practical sessions teaching life skills such as budgeting.

One of the drill hall drop-in centre usersThe centre is used each week by an average of 100 young people many of whom are homeless or fleeing abuse, misusing substances or simply feeling isolated.

Drill Hall has facilities to meet their physical needs, offering affordable meals, showers, fresh clothing and a laundry. The young people are encouraged to talk about their difficulties so that YMCA workers can put them in touch with specialist support agencies such as CAN, Off the Hook, Accommodation Concern, Youth Action, Community Support Team or Connexions - many of which hold special surgeries at the centre. Facilities also include an Internet café based on ideas suggested by a young person.

The café computers are used for research and CV writing as well as for recreation. It is a distribution centre for The Big Issue for Kettering, Corby and Market Harborough.
